This research is aimed to examine the ways and attitudes of newspaper journalism in reporting an issue as it appeared in their daily publication. To do this the researcher had selected a most contentious issue, namely the involvement of Akbar Tanjung in the case of the Bulog's non budgetary fund embezzlement, and scrutinized how the journalists had constructed the issue and presented it in newspaper, particularly in the most leading newspaper companies in Indonesia, Kompas and Republika. The study employs Van Dijk's model of text analysis using a number of cognition sets such as Thematic Structure [what is said], Thematic Structure [how an opinion is composed] Semantic Structure [how the meaning is emphasized in news text], syntactic structure [ How an opinion is conveyed], Stylistic structure [Choice of words used] and Rhetoric Structure [How the emphasis is made]. The result of the study show that Kompas, in its news reports, tends to corner Akbar Tanjung, where as Republika....yo.
