This article deals with the way of knowledge to be stratified and classified by Muslim scholars in medieval Islam. As it suggests, the classification, as well as the stratification, of knowledge resulted from muslims' perception of the same stratified explanation of the Qur'an and hadith about knowledge. Also, the different function of knowledge has given rise to the different position of knowledge in the eyes of Muslims. Central to this are then the overwhelming sources of knowledge in Muslim world. The cause of this enormouse sources range from attempts of translation, instruction, interpretation, intellectual freedom, to large attention of Muslim rulers to have facilitated the scholars to explore knowledge and science.yo.
